Connecticut

Dr. Shangold is a practicing emergency physician in Connecticut for the past 20 years. He is the founder and managing partner for Northeast Emergency Medicine Specialists which is the sole democratic private emergency medicine group in Connecticut. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Shangold has served in many state and national leadership roles helping to create policy that benefits physicians and the public health. As the President of the Connecticut State Medical Society, he continues to advocate for policy changes regarding the negative impact High Deductible Health Plans have on patient care. Dr. Shangold serves on multiple committees from various organizations attempting to address the opioid crisis including the Connecticut State Medical Society, the American College of Emergency Physicians, Hartford Healthcare and the State of Connecticut’s Alcohol and Drug Policy Committee. Being intimate with the devastating effects of Opioids, he has become a leader in Connecticut opposing the legalization of recreational marijuana. Additionally, he has worked on many important other issues facing physicians including Emergency Department overcrowding and physician liability and reimbursement issues.

Dr. Shangold completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and stayed in Philadelphia, completing his medical school education at Jefferson Medical College and then did emergency medicine residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. After 11 years in Pennsylvania, he returned to his home state of Connecticut with his wife and three children.

In addition to state leadership positions, he has served as the Director of Emergency Services for his local emergency department and the Chief of Staff for the local hospital. He is dedicated to his community and patients. Dr. Shangold continues to advocate for common sense solutions to the challenges that impede the delivery of high-quality, safe emergency care.
